Who: I. I am hybrid. In my family there are different nationalities and my education was always a mixture. Ever since I was a little girl, I had many teachers―I studied art and pedagogy in a university and I have lived in different places in Chile. I have also been to the world, but I decided to come back. I was born in a troubled place, and through art I learned to live with the peculiarities of my story. I have forged an ideal that is bound to the spontaneity of creation: The goal is to colonize myself with a new way of thinking. Performances have allowed me to face the geography, the climate, the peculiarities of light, the cold, the loneliness of a place that is socially rigid and prejudicial. My first and last names are Conflicta, and I live in the XII region of Magallanes and Chilean Antartica.
Biography
Macarena Perich Rosas is a performance artist and photographer from the southernmost part of the world: Patagonia. Coming from this far-off and disconnected place, Perich Rosas deconstructs both the body and her hostile environment in order to find a possible hybridization of the two. Her interest in the relationship between presence and place is researched through teaching, residencies, and her personal practice, as well as through hosting CONFL!CTA Contemporary Art and Science Research, an international art residency in Punta Arenas, Chile where she lives and works.
