In \u00a0groundbreaking works such as \u201cDistant Skinship (1995) and \u00a0\u201cSelf-Portrait\u201d (1997) , It\u014d explored how the skin, as enveloping sensory organ,\u00a0mediates between internal and external worlds,\u00a0identity and memory. More recently, her series \u201cOne Response\u201d (2009) and \u201cI guess it\u2019s better that radiation doesn\u2019t have a colour\u201d (2011) have dealt with the body and the traces of historical memory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Eight years ago, It\u014d\u00a0was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, a degenerative neuromotor condition from where\u00a0she has begun developing\u00a0her new art practice. This forms the base of the performance she will be\u00a0presenting as part of \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/livebiennale.ca\/2019\/tari-ito\/\"><span class=\"s3\">Live! Biennial<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s1\"><i>A neuromotor disease atrophies my muscles. I\u2019m alarmed at how I can no longer do something I was able to do but a month ago. Yet I must use any movement I can today, because without moving I cannot live. In my changing body, countless contour lines appear. Perhaps these lines are \u201cmemory\u201d. These lines come close and stick to my body; as I lay on the ground, I wrap myself up in the lines of \u201cmemory\u201d.<\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">It\u014d\u00a0will screen video footage of her earlier and more recent work. She will then discuss the development of her practice in a talk and Q&amp;A.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This event is part of\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">a\u00a0two-day workshop on OTHER BODIES,\u00a0addressing the intersection of gender, race, sexuality and disability:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>organized by\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">The Critical + Creative Social Justice Studies Cluster &amp;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">The Department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory\u00a0at UBC and Live!
